Dear Friends and Colleagues of the UCL Americas Research Network

We are delighted to send you the program for our upcoming conference Borders vs. Bridges: Nationalism and Transnationalism in the Americas. Our third international annual conference will be held on the 11-12 May this year, at the Institute of the Americas, UCL, in London.

We are confident that this conference will be equally conducive as it has over the past years. Our theme, borders versus bridges, will help to shed light on some of the biggest challenges the region faces today, as well as discussing the physical, political and cultural formation of transnational bridges and national borders in a historical context. As a leading postgraduate hub for studies of the Americas in the UK, we look forward to bringing together the latest research being conducted by postgraduates in a friendly and welcoming environment.

We are especially happy to confirm our two keynote speakers, Professor Cathy McIlwaine (Queen Mary) and Doctor Nick Witham (UCL).

Over the two-day event, we will host a total of sixteen panels to bring together our 48 internationally sourced speakers from across a number of fields. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided throughout the conference, and on both days we will host a networking session in the evening with drinks and nibbles. The conference is free to attend but registration is necessary.

For further information and updates, please feel free to email us at, or connect to our Facebook or Twitter.

Many thanks and we look forward to welcoming you to the conference,

Anna & Quintijn
