Gift Aid

The British Association for American Studies gives all its members, who are UK tax payers, the opportunity to increase the value of their donations to BAAS through the Gift Aid scheme.

Agreeing to Gift Aid

New members can complete the Gift Aid declaration when they join BAAS and existing members can opt in to Gift Aid by updating their preferences in the Profile area. Please follow the instructions below to opt in. (Click the images for a larger view).

To access the Gift Aid section in your profile go to the Members menu, then select BAAS Community, then Profile. This will take you to the profile page, where you should select Edit.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and tick the I wish to claim Gift Aid box and then click the Save Changes button.

By opting in members agree to the following statement:

“I would like the British Association for American Studies (BAAS) to claim Gift Aid on my subscription and any donations I make in the future or have made in the past 4 years.  I confirm that I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.”

Members should notify BAAS if they:

  • Want to cancel this declaration

  • Change their name or home address

  • No longer pay sufficient tax on their income and/or capital gains

If members pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to them, they must include all their Gift Aid donations on their Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust their tax code.
