BAAS Postgraduate News

Welcome to the postgraduate section of the BAAS website! BAAS has a long history of supporting the UK-based American Studies postgraduate community. By offering money to postgraduate-run conferences, annual prizes for essays and research trips in the US and elsewhere, BAAS acknowledges the significant contributions made by postgraduates in sustaining and rejuvenating the multidisciplinary field of America Studies. In addition, by electing its representatives to the Executive Committee from among this community, BAAS is acutely able to respond to the real needs and concerns of postgraduates in the field.

In addition to offering concessionary membership fees, BAAS supports American Studies postgraduates in the UK in a variety of ways:

-        The Annual Postgraduate Conference, which is held every November at a UK university. This year, we are very excited to announce that the BAAS PG conference will be held at The Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford on the 13th November 2010 with Professor Donald Pease (Dartmouth College, USA) and Professor Nick Selby (University of East Anglia) delivering the plenary sessions. More information will be available soon. You can access the call for papers here. If you are interested in organizing and hosting the next postgraduate conference, please download the application form below and return it to Zalfa Feghali by January 15, 2011.

-        A range of prizes and awards, details of which can be accessed via the Awards tab above or by using the links below.

-        Funding for conference travel

Please feel free to get in touch with questions about any of the above, or with suggestions on how to improve BAAS’ postgraduate provision. I also welcome information and updates on the research and events currently being undertaken by the American Studies community.
